Labour Day Events

There are two events to help celebrate Labour Day this year.

The first is a moving debate on Sunday, 8pm at the Blackball Inn, on the subject that :Blackball Workers should be unionised. It has seemed an anomaly for some time that workers employed locally are not unionised yet the village celebrates the 1908 strike and its place in labour history as a key part of its heritage. A moving debate means that everyone gets a chance to speak.

The second event is the opening of our summer exhibition: Together: a story of women’s struggle for midwifery. Curated by Caroline Selwood this tells the story last century and through to the present for midwife recognition and pay and conditions. Four local women have contributed their midwifery stories. The opening will be held at the museum at 4.30pm on Labour Day.
