Mayday cancelled

Because of the uncertainty and disruption caused by the virus we have taken union advice and cancelled this year’s Mayday.

We will revisit the topic next year.

Meanwhile a new exhibition on the Universal Basic Income will be mounted for the winter months.

To be held at the Blackball Working Men’s Club and Mutual School of Arts,

Main Road, Blackball, Saturday May 2nd.

11.00am AGM of Te Puawai Co-operative Society Limited. Shareholders and supporters, or even the curious, are welcome.

12.00pm Lunch available. Koha.

1.00pm Workshop. Just Transition – articulating a workers’ point of view.

  • Review of transition so far for the Coast from local union members.
  • Neo-liberal overview by Green MP, Gareth Hughes.
  • E tu members from Taranaki tell of what has been happening in terms of cross sectoral co-operation for transition from oil and gas.
  • Group discussion of possible initiatives on Coast and what that might mean for the organisation of the local economy.

4.30pm Marking of Workers Memorial Day and opening of Universal Basic Income Exhibition.

6pm Mayday dinner at the Blackball Inn, with after dinner speakers identifying issues of importance in coming election, plus musical items.(please book: 037324888 or 021361397)
